Regular Cleaning – The Foundation of a Healthy Display Fridge
Cleaning is the simplest and most effective form of maintenance. Here is what you need to do and how often:
- Daily: wipe down interior and exterior surfaces with a clean cloth and a neutral detergent. Remove grease marks, juice spills, and other food residues before they dry out and become difficult to clean.
- Weekly: clean the rubber door seals. These accumulate dirt and mould, affecting the seal and, in turn, refrigeration efficiency. Use a soft sponge with a diluted vinegar solution or a product specifically designed for rubber.
- Monthly: fully defrost the display fridge if it does not have an automatic defrost system. Ice build-up on the evaporator considerably reduces cooling efficiency and increases electricity consumption.
Caution: never use sharp objects to remove ice, and do not use aggressive or abrasive detergents that can damage the internal surfaces of the display fridge.
Checking Key Components
The Condenser and Air Filter
The condenser is the "lungs" of any refrigeration system. Dust, grease, and lint accumulate on its grilles, reducing cooling capacity and forcing the compressor to work harder. Clean the condenser with a soft brush or compressed air at least once every two weeks, especially in environments with heavy dust or high footfall.

Temperature and Correct Loading of the Display Fridge
Many owners overlook the fact that overloading the display fridge directly affects cold air circulation and cooling efficiency. Always respect the maximum load limit specified by the manufacturer and ensure that products do not block the ventilation grilles.
Also, monitor the displayed temperature daily. A display fridge for dairy products and cold cuts must maintain between 0°C and 4°C, while display fridges for beverages can operate at 4–8°C. If the temperature frequently deviates from the set values, this is a sign that something is not working correctly.
Periodic Service Schedule – Mandatory, Not Optional
Even if the display fridge appears to be working perfectly, a periodic technical inspection carried out by a specialist is essential. At least one full service per year is recommended, during which the technician will check:
- Refrigerant level and pressure
- Condition of the compressor and fan
- Operation of thermostats and control systems
- Electrical connections and fuses
- The condensate drainage system
